mother's day aftermath

Priscilla Princess

Yesterday was a strange Mother's Day for me. I thought of how this was the first Mother's Day my Mom's mother is no longer with us. and I thought of my godmother, (my grandmother's daughter) in the hospital who just had a tracheotomy. they still do not know what caused her respiratory distress so she will be getting more tests. With the tracheotomy she is partially breathing on her own and she has been writing us notes so that is good news. Hopefully we will know more today.

Saturday night I came home from a trip to Connecticut for my nieces first holy Communion and found our Priscilla had had another seizure while she was home alone. Thankfully she is perfectly fine now with the exception of her epilepsy which strikes in its own timeline without warning. She is under a doctor's care who prescribes medication and also instructs me to watch her for the first 24 hours after a seizure since that seems to be when she most likely will have another one or a series of them.
If you saw her curled up in a ball on the couch pillows right now you would never guess the trauma her little body recently went through.
I saw my own mom early in the morning yesterday to wish her happiness and drop off a gift. We were all to go to my brothers for brunch but like Priscilla, my Dad wasn't feeling well so my Mom took my son with her to spend time with his dear cousins. My husband visited his Mom with his brother and I stayed home with Priscilla. Despite everything that is going on I feel very grateful. This is my life but for today all is well. It may not seem like it is but when I think about it, right at this very moment all is well.

"...that thou art happy, thou owest to God;
that thou continuest such, thou owest to thyself."~ John Milton: Paradise Lost

Whew- what a busy and yes slightly complicated couple of weeks you've had! From what you write tho it seems as if you are taking care of things that need to be taken care of and basically getting through it. Priscilla is a lucky pup to live with such an adoring and caring family. Keep on keeping on SS, love you and I am praying for you.

Hello Lily,
Poor Priscilla - I hope she'll feel better soon. I had a beloved Irish Setter who had a seizure disorder. It was very difficult for him and us.

By the way - I'm holding the ice cream cone you ordered. However, it's melting down my arm, so I'm going to have to eat it myself. Take Care!

Oh my Lily, poor Auntie, poor Priscilla, poor Dad!! They do say that things come in threes.
First, for your Auntie - our Auntie had respiratory distress three years ago now and at age 96 was given a tracheostomy. She coped really well and learned how to talk by taking a deep breath, putting her finger over the tube and then talking. She has the tube changed over by the specialist every second month and the nurses in the home change it on the intervening month. In her case, her vocal chords were paralysed and since they determine what goes down the throat, either air or food, she was in dire straits. The cause was a tumour, low down in the brain which had affected Nerves 10, 11 and 12. It is a very slow growing tumour though and she hasn't had surgery for it because of her incredibly advanced age.
I don't know if this will help the diagnosis for your Auntie but perhaps it might. Best of luck to her anyway; at least she is breathing without a respirator.
My godmother also features on my blog today. She lost one sister to brain cancer and another to breast/bone cancer just a week ago. Both died within 18 days of each other. I missed her visit to Australia unfortunately.
Two of my kitties have been sick too so I know the wrench in your gut when one of your babies is sick. Right now I have to feed the birds who are outside my window, chirping and begging!
Best of luck my dear. I hope your week progresses and is much better for you. xx
